Sketch Fever

To pre­pare for the next ver­sion of kartooner.com I’ve been doing a few sketches to get the cre­ative juices flow­ing. This sketch in par­tic­u­lar, which I’ve enti­tled “School Office” just came to me last night after watch­ing an episode of CSI where a spikey-haired blonde kid acci­den­tally stuffed his best friend into a com­mer­cial washer.

I’m not sure how that was the basis for inspi­ra­tion, but it was.

Well, I know you are cur­rently in alge­bra so when I see this, I see you look­ing depressed know­ing you are off to class :)

Bryan: Hah! You might be right, see­ing as though car­toons (and art respec­tively) are an expres­sion of emo­tion. Look­ing at it now, I can see where you might have “drawn” that conclusion.

This is great Eric. It’s about time to show us some of your graphic side.

I want to make lots of changes too — some time ago, I took the tough deci­sion to quit my for­mer job, become a free­lance cow­boy, and that hope­fully will result in hav­ing more time to res­cue a lot of long-forgotten per­sonal projects. Like, um, web comics and stuff…

Beto: Wow, you should be com­mended for that. I’ve been enter­tain­ing the part-time free­lance cow­boy gig for awhile now and I’d much rather make it a full-time kind of deal. I’ll refrain from point­ing any fin­gers for the fact that my cur­rent employer occa­sion­ally reads this site, but I’ll just men­tion (out of some sort of respect) that I’m look­ing for more growth.

I’ll be show­ing off some more sketches soon and even­tu­ally will be incor­po­rat­ing them into this site, as a weekly fea­ture hopefully.

I think your inspi­ra­tion came from the adven­tures with your ‘lit­tle’ brother Matt. Man, you talked him into some crazy stuff when you both were young.…

Kind of creepy inspi­ra­tion, but I love the draw­ing. It’s really too bad I have absolutely no drawing/art abil­ity, because see­ing things like this makes me want to pick up a pen­cil and sketch, but I can’t.

I’m also in a re-design mood — I’ve been want­ing to redo my site for quite some­time now. It’s hard to start. I’m not sure what col­ors to go with.

I’m also happy to see some car­toon work posted. This is good stuff, you should def­i­nitely post more art. Was this a scanned sketch or was it cre­ated on a tablet? Look­ing for­ward to the new design and more kar­toons! :)
