Himalayan Coke

December 5, 2004

Picture this: You and your friends are taking a brisk hike through the Himalayas enjoying the fresh breeze sifting through your hair. You inhale the serene qualities of nature and out of nowhere you notice in the distance something familar. It’s not until you decide to investigate the situation further and lo and behold, painted on some rocks are advertisements for Coca-Cola and Pepsi.

You all wonder how in God’s green earth did advertisements for soft drinks end up in the Himalayas (of all places)?

Representatives at Coca-Cola and Pepsi India have no knowledge as to why these rocks have been defaced and would much rather evade the issue. Despite this “Oliver North” approach, the court has ordered the National Environment Engineering Research Institute (Neeri, for short) to inspect the stretch of land in the surrounding area for an ecological damage report and from there they’ll work out the verdict for this case.

For purposes of reference, I’ve come up with an unauthorized ad campaign (utilizing pictures from various sources):

The question is, Did Coca-Cola and Pepsi deface the beauty of nature to spread the world of their engine-cleaning soft drinks?

Ummm, I’m going with yes. And not only does it work well as an engine cleaner, my Dad showed me that it removes road grime from your windshield like a champ! Before you wash your car, wet a paper towel with some Coke, scrub the windshield, rinse, then wash as usual. Wala, you now have a squeaky clean windshield, all thanks to a pH level of 2 or something acidic as hell like that.

Chad: Next time I wash my car I’m going remember your tip. On a similar note, I’ve heard from various people that a wad of newspaper works wonders for windows as well.

I think it’s an eye opener for soda drinkers when you realize the pH level is strong enough to clean the dirt and grime from an engine, to the point where it looks close to pristine condition.

I think you can use Coke to disinfect a wound if you need to, also. I believe a soldier told me that once in a bar, so the information is bit hazy.

Coke and Pepsi have no knowledge of any other culture besides the American way — this proves it.

Oh yeah Erik, newspaper is great for windows, doesn’t streak or leave lint. And you get black, nasty fingers too, an added bonus. But let’s hope none of us have to do windows anytime soon, eh?

Anyone ever seen the little experiment where you leave a nail in cup of coke for a few days to see what happens to it? Yeah, it corrodes the steel to nothing.

As all major corupt companies, of course they did it and suddenly don’t remember doing it… =)
