My Brother

Looking back before I can remember when, the thought of a guardian protecting me has always surfaced in my mind. Whether it was from the forces of evil, or from the monsters in my closet, I have always seemed to need some protection in my life. Throughout most of your life, you have many protectors willing to flex their muscles to help those who are in need of it, but I believe the two most protectors in my life have been my father and my brother Erik.

Now hold up, up until now I’m sure you thought it was Erik writing this entry, but I think you were a bit mistaken. This is Erik’s little brother Matt writting, why you may be asking? Well, I wanted to let everyone know that it was my brother’s birthday on the 11th (yesterday) and even though I was planning on writing about it without him knowing I totally vegged and thought his birthday was on the 13th.. Do’h!

So, I made a story up that I needed his password to change some settings and here we are! Let me tell you, Erik is one hell of a brother, always willing to be there when times get tough and has always been the best brother I’ll ever have or known. He’s one of those guys you aspire to be, with a loving wife and a beautiful child, at times I’m semi jealous. (But, I’ll be damned if I’d admit it! hah). I just wanted ALL his readers to wish him a belated Happy Birthday. He deserves it, he’s one hell of a guy, a best friend and best of all, a big brother.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ERIK!

Happy Birthday Erik! Pretend I had something witty to say. Or better yet, think of something good and edit my comment.

Thanks. Hope it was the best. You only turn 47 once.

@Rob - Probably cos he’s getting older ;) I always want to just breeze through my birthdays without a thought nowadays.

Happy belated Birthday Erik…I’ll expect to see the pictures of you blowing out the candles on your cake up on Flickr soon :)

@Matt - that was a very cool thing you did there :D

Happy belated, Erik… How many candles were on your cake? ;)

Thanks for letting us know, Matt. That was a classy thing to do.

Happy belated birthday, Erik. So how come you kept it quiet, eh? Are you afraid that people will realize what an aging old bugger you are, as you try to maintain the impression of being a young and vigorous chap.

I gave up on all that nonsense when I got married. I didn’t need to be young anymore ;)

Wow, thanks guys. I think this is the first hijack (even if my brother had the password) of Wordpress used for good and something that I wasn’t expecting. I didn’t inform the masses of my birthday because to be honest I didn’t think anyone would care.

This year they put 24 candles on the cake, so you can expect that next year they’ll increase that by one. :)

Happy birthday, Erik! Hope you have a fantastic day. Of course we’d care that it’s your birthday, 24 is pretty damn old. Both of us are going to have to start looking for nursing homes soon. ;)

    Happy birthday, Erik!

My recommendation would be to celebrate with some good friends, several pints of guinness and a fine Partagas Black Label cigar (if that’s your thing).

Okay, I don’t quite get what’s going on here but in any case…

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ERIK! One step closer to downhill! :D

Wait till you get 30 - you’ll want to stop counting birthdays by then. Just ask me. :P

Beto: It’s weird, I know. Basically my brother accessed the admin backend for Wordpress and posted this.

24? That’s it? Happy Birthday. And watch out for that sneaky brother of yours. Has he always been so smooth? So your host just gave him your login info??

My brother is actually very trusting, I just asked him for it.. Haha.. Sorry, I’m no smooth operator unless their are ladies involved..Jk!

What I lack in age I make up in wisdom. To me, age is just a number. What you decide to do with your life is what ends up being the most important factor.

Granted, I could have pulled that from a bathroom stall but…

Erik: Happy belated. Good point. There’s nothing worse than an old fart without any wisdom. You seem to have a pretty good brother there, too. Mine would have never done anything decent with that kind of access and power.

No father could ask for better sons, you both make me very proud. Kudo’s to Matt for the story of love and appreciation for his older brother being a protector. Matt, you are now a protector to us because you serve your country by being in the Navy and knowing and seeing so much crap that deals with National Security…thank God I don’t need to know or worry about that, nor does Erik. I do sleep better knowing there are such fine and dedicated people like you doing their jobs to help protect us civilians.

I love you both and what would I give to be able to write such a nice story about my older brother, but alas, he is with God now and I’ll have to wait until I see him someday above to let him know what you have professed so greatly about your older brother being…a protector.

God bless boys, I love you both!
    Dad

I’m a few days late, however, I still want to wish you a happy birthday, Erik. And, Matt, thanks for bringing it up.
