On my frequent trips to Bishop, California with my Dad and brother we’d regularly tune into “The Rest of the Story” and “News and Comment”, a radio show led by radio personality and commentary extraordinaire, Paul Harvey.
Paul Harvey “reached audiences way beyond the windy city in 1951, when he began his coast-to-coast “News and Comment” on the ABC Radio Networks. On May 10, 1976, Mr. Harvey began another series of programs on the ABC Radio Networks entitled “The Rest of the Story”, which delve into the forgotten or little known facts behind stories of famous people and events.”
Mr. Harvey was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he eventually began his radio career in 1933 at KVOO-AM while still a high school student. Years later, after graduating from Tulsa University, Paul Harvey continued working in radio in the surrounding areas which led to his interest in covering the U.S Navy and it’s fleet in the Pacific in 1940.
When he was returning to the United States from this assignment the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor and because of this Paul enlisted himself into the Army Air Corps, where he served until 1944.
After the war, Paul Harvey moved to the Chicago area where he began broadcasting as an ABC news affiliate for WENR-AM where he “quickly became the most listened-to newscaster in Chicago.”
And now, the rest of the story:
“Paul Harvey’s reach continues to broaden in the 21st Century, as ‘News and Comment’ is streamed on the world wide web twice a day.” at his official website located at www.paulharvey.com.
G’day.
