The "plot holes" were small and the "lack of story movement" is consistent with an epic tale. I think it's strange that he says he likes that genre of story yet complains about it being long. I was mainly tickled over the fact he called Merry and Pippi the Cheech and Chong of Middle Earth. After seeing the third movie for the second time.. I can honestly say it stands alone really well. As a whole (The Lord of the Rings) is/was/will always be a wonderful trilogy. Yep, I agree.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I'm sure Tommy Chong would of fit in 'just fine' in Middle Earth, just keep him away from the Cave of the magic mushrooms' As for Cheech...well, that's another story indeed.
