Nice Dreams in Middle Earth

December 19, 2003

In the article “Why I hate The Lord of the Rings” Larry Terenzi, contributing author, states his opinion in regards to the Tolkein trilogy. He basically describes his displeasure and monotony while watching the films as well as the lack of story (in the movies, not necessarily in the books).

The best part of the article in my opinion is when Ternenzi calls the characters ‘Merry and Pippin’ the ‘Cheech and Chong’ of Middle Earth.

Actually I think that article really sucked. The “plot holes” were small and the “lack of story movement” is consistent with an epic tale. I think it’s strange that he says he likes that genre of story yet complains about it being long. Epic tales are supposed to be long.

Yep, I agree.

I was mainly tickled over the fact he called Merry and Pippi the Cheech and Chong of Middle Earth.

After seeing the third movie for the second time.. I can honestly say it stands alone really well. As a whole (The Lord of the Rings) is/was/will always be a wonderful trilogy.

Cheech and Chong.…damn, that’s a compliment, minus the dope and low-riding aspects. I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I’m sure Tommy Chong would of fit in ‘just fine’ in Middle Earth, just keep him away from the Cave of the magic mushrooms’

As for Cheech…well, that’s another story indeed.
