The Orb does not use an internet connection which means no phone lines or other clutter. Rather, it uses a wireless network built into the egg-shaped device and transmits and receives information like stock reports, weather, etc.

According to the web site you simply plug it into a conventional power outlet and it automatically begins reporting on the status of various information.
