Thoughts & observations from a quirky cartoonist/designer.

Homer’s Email

According to BBC News:

“Thousands of Simpsons fans have got e-mails - from Homer himself! His e-mail address - chunkylover53@aol.com - appeared on an episode of the cartoon.

Homer had hired a private detective to keep an eye on Lisa and the snoop e-mailed him back at that address.

Straight away, thousands of fans sent in messages to see if they’d get a reply.

And they did! (Although, as of this writing the address is now defunct according to a test email I sent to the email address, which was bounced back to me.)

The show’s writer Matt Selman logged in the night that the episode aired and the inbox was immediately filled with the maximum number of responses.

“He’s tried to answer every one of them and then as soon as he answers a hundred, a hundred more pop in,” said The Simpsons executive producer, Al Jean.

“He’s trying to answer them as Homer and give advice.”

Here’s a few sites that delve into the magic of imagination and pure wonderment:

The Animatrix is a four-part series of Anime-style cartoons featuring the deeper explanation of the question: What is the Matrix? From what I’ve seen of it so far (since it’s still downloading), the animation and story appear to be top-notch. Since everyone is eagerly anticipating the sequels; The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, this comes as a well added edition to the mystery that is the Matrix.

Dream Portal is an interesting psuedo-web realm wherein the magician David Copperfield presents the viewer (or user) a glimpse into a world full of brilliant shapes and designs. It’s concept is interesting although it leaves the viewer with confusion and awe. Much like Copperfield’s stage shows.

Homestarrunner.com is the definitive source for hilarious humor mixed in with great character interaction. Of notable mention is the feature called ‘Strongbad Email’ where fans of the site can.. well, email Strongbad. Everything on this site screams creativity and the imagination of the creators is over the top and best of all squeaky clean, which is an amazing feat in providing good comedy. Homestarrunner, it’s dot net!

Get that Gig (Do a Jig)

Tell it like it is as a Movie Reviewer…Land an internship with the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences scriptwriting department..Organize the screenings at the Slamdance Film Festival… Research films, actors and filmmakers for Universal Studios.

All this according to a new web site on the scene that resembles Monster.com and Careers.com — only this is tailored for specific “gigs” for all kinds of industry leading careers. GetthatGig.com is the name of the site and they have wonderful information for those of you who are interested into making it BIG in the entertainment industry.

Although the site offers various categories, I’ve sectioned off a specific category for this review and provide it for your viewing here.

Happy Belated Groundhog Day

Groundhog Day according to Google is “a Canadian and American tradition, the day (February 2) that the groundhog, or woodchuck, comes out of his hole after winter hibernation to look for his shadow; foretells six more weeks of bad weather if he sees it; spring is coming if he cannot see his shadow because of clouds; supposedly goes back into his hole if more bad weather is coming and stays above ground if spring is near; statistical evidence does not support this tradition.”

In the tradition of this holiday, there is a movie that captures the spirit of this holiday in a whimsical fashion. That movie with the same name starred Bill Murray (Phil Connors) and Andy McDowell as a news crew sent to report on the drastic weather and Groundhog Day. When the creature rises from its hole it sees its shadow and thus sends the plot into its aforementioned craziness.

Murray has to revisit each day in the same order and fashion. Every single event that occurs on that specific day is reoccuring and drives his character into utter insanity. Until he figures out how to break the cycle and use it to his advantage.

In a memorable scene, Murray decides to learn how to play the piano. Due to the reoccuring days, he becomes an expert pianist and wows the townsfolk into thinking he’s a genius.

Groundhog Day is both a romantic comedy and a typical comedic adventure that will both intrique and enthrall your thoughts into utter insanity. Much like Phil Conners, you too will experience the lasting impressions of this unique movie even after its all said and done.

Habari has been installed. Time to migrate and will more than likely need some assistance with that. Love the minimalist feel. via Twitter

Delicioso!
